Monster Design Contest results + Backerkit info!
about 1 year ago – Fri, Mar 24, 2023 at 12:35:39 PM

Hi everyone!

We've been having lots of small issues during this week (nothing really big, and it hasn't really affected the game's development, but things that for some reason or another take time from us, and when they pile up together, it turns out it was a lot of time and we couldn't make this update sooner).

One of those has been Backerkit.

We have everything ready and all the Kickstarter info has been correctly imported to Backerkit, all the rewards have been configured there, as have been the add-ons, the Backerkit store has been set up, and more... but the platform says we have not finished setting up.

All of this is done, but the Backerkit platform hasn't noticed yet!

It seems there is some kind of bug, and we are talking with Backerkit staff to fix this ASAP. Once we have that set up, you will receive your surveys to select your rewards and you will be able to redeem your Steam key for the first Sword of the Necromancer (you will have it in your Backerkit digital downloads section)

Speaking of the first Sword of the Necromancer, if you use the Opera GX Browser, you can play it for free without even downloading it until April 6th!

Click this image to go to the Sword of the Necromancer page on GX Games!

A good way if you want to try the game until the Backerkit issue has been solved.

Revenants and Bosses designed by backers

We have set up the backers channel in our Discord server, and some backers have already shared their ideas for the 2 Revenants and 2 Bosses that we will include in the game!

If you haven't yet, remember to fill the form we linked in our past update (backers only) and join our Discord server to discuss and give your ideas!

Monster Design Contest Winner

And lastly, the long-awaited results of the Monster Design Contest! With more than a quarter of the votes, the winner is...

Atterrenti!

We will get in contact with Atterrenti's author soon to explain how it will be implemented into the game (and which changes we will make to it so it works as a regular monster).

Special mention to the 2nd and 3rd place: Tin and Takoy! We would also like to include them in the game, and will do if we have time!

That's all for today! Thank you very much, we will inform you as soon as the Backerkit issue has been solved!

Featured Game: Selini

Our friends at Cymban are having a Kickstarter campaign for their INSIDE-inspired Metroidvania, SELINI

SELINI is a nonlinear exploration platformer approaching the relationship between human and artificial intelligence in a non-verbal fashion. You will have to make your way in this enigmatic world relying completely on the in-game visuals: no text, UI or cutscenes will interrupt your experience!

SELINI's crowdfunding campaign is currently 2/3rds into its initial goal. Go check it out and back it if you like what you see!

CAMPAIGN END! WE MADE IT TO THE TOP 10 SPANISH VIDEOGAME PROJECTS ON KICKSTARTER!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Mar 02, 2023 at 12:08:56 PM

2,483 thanks to each and everyone of our backers!

Please read this update until the end to know how we will proceed after the campaign's end!

The future looks bright!

From the Grimorio of Games team, thank you so much for believing in the project! Thanks to your support we made it to the top 10 Spanish videogame Kickstarter campaigns ever!

The main goal of this campaign was to fund the physical editions of the game and fill it with more content that we planned but had to cut in order to be able to finish the game.

Thanks to the backers, we will have:

  • Additional fully voice acted scenes!
  • More music by Dale North and Emi Evans!
  • 2 New game modes! Boss Rush, Colosseum
  • 2 extra bosses and 2 extra Revenant summons (designed by the backers!)
  • A customizable character that will be part of the story!

We didn't manage to reach the Challenge Dungeon goal, nor the 3D remake of the first Sword of the Necromancer game, but don't worry! You still helped us more than we could ask for!

Maybe we can't make the 50-level Challenge Dungeon, but we can slip some kind of post-game challenge anyway (one easier and cheaper to make). As for the remake, we can wait until we start selling Revenant to fund it, or maybe ask for your help in the future with a new campaign exclusively for it.

But rest assured that we will definitely make Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection!

There's also the Social Stretch Goals! You helped us reach a lot of milestones in social media sites, which will really help us with visibility.

You unlocked:

  • A building material pack
  •  3 new weapon types: Katana, Naginata and Dual Knives
  •  A special unique shield: the Aegis
  •  A new optional boss: the Whispike Queen
  •  2 sets of costumes: Classic and Alternative

You basically reached all the "real" goals we set! We thought of the swimsuits as a joke, parodying those "fanservice-y" skins many games have (anyway, we DID design them and we would have made them if we reached the 100 points :D)

We love all the fanart you made (we couldn't fit all of them). There is a clear tendency here...

So... What now?

First of all, we have to wait until Kickstarter processes all the payments. That usually takes up to a week. As always in every Kickstarter campaign, there are problems with processing some payments: some banks see this as a strange charge, being from another country or another currency than usual and block the payment. Some people used a debit card that is not supported or doesn't have enough funds. If that's your case, don't panic. Kickstarter will try to charge the pledge a few times more and if they  still can't, they won't make it effective.

Try to contact Kickstarter support if you are having these kind of problems.

If they still can't help you, worry not, you will receive a mail from the pledge manager like everyone else and you'll be able to pay through their system and get your rewards.

Pledge Manager?

To make it easier for both backers and us, we will use a pledge manager so you can comfortably select your rewards, enter your fulfillment info and even add more add-ons if you wish. We will probably use Backerkit as the last time, but we are exploring other options.

After Kickstarter has finished processing all the payments, you will receive a mail from the pledge manager (this can take a while, don't worry, we will write another update to inform you!), which will redirect you to the page when you can enter your information and select your rewards. This is where you will select the platform you want your digital (PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, Xbox One) and physical (Switch, PS4, PS5) games for. Remember that the key for the first Sword of the Necromancer (2021, the original one), will be only for Steam.

If you ever need to update your address or change something from your pledge (change the platform or add more add-ons), you have time until we lock all the orders, a couple of months before we start shipping everything (about a year from now). Again, we will warn you when we are going to lock the orders in an update. After we lock them you won't be able to change anything so make sure everything is ok once the time comes!

In the meantime...

You have to choose which 3 monsters do you want us to make the Acrylic Standees of, and also which monster from the Monster Design Contest we had on Twitter is getting into the game!

Check the thread to see the monsters!

We will send you a form next week so you can make your selection! This will be on a backer-only update, so be ready!

We will also send you another survey so you can enter your Discord username and we can give you the "Revenant Backer" role, and then you will be able to start designing the 2 bosses and 2 Revenant summons with the other backers in the special channels we will facilitate.

Don't forget to join our Discord server!

Again, thank you very much for your support! Let's make the game as good as we can with your help!

120k stretch goal achieved! Last day of the campaign, collaboration with Forlorn Memories
about 1 year ago – Wed, Mar 01, 2023 at 09:25:22 AM

Only a day left! Thanks again for your support!

It has hard and took a while, but we finally reached the 120K stretch goal, meaning that there will be two more Revenants in the game, designed by the backers after the campaign ends!

If you don't remember what a Revenant is, check this update!

Having met this goal, this means we have to uncover the next one (and probably the last one we willbe able to reach in this campaign):

Post-game challenge dungeon!

If we reach this goal, we will add a post-game dungeon consisting of 50 levels, with harder-than-ever enemies in it, new bosses (the extra ones resulting from this campaign and a couple more) and new versions of old bosses.

As you know, Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant has Dark Cloud/Dark Chonicle as one of its main inspirations. If you have played those games, think of this extra dungeon as of the Zelmite Mine after the end of Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2 in America).

What do we mean with 50 levels?

The first game had a level-boss-level-boss... structure. This is no longer the case in Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant. Now, dungeons have more than one level (and can have more than one boss) and the player selects which level they want to enter in a sort of "level selection" screen. When the player beats a level, they unlock the following one (or ones, as there could be branching paths). Exactly like Dark Chronicle did before.

Besides regular "procedural maze" levels, there will be also handcrafted levels and levels that are more based in puzzles rather than battles in the game's dungeons.

With this extra dungeon, we would turn that up to eleven and try to offer a challenge for those that want more after beating the game. Help us reach 150K in this last day and we will make that a reality!

 What about the remake?

We have received many messages (in Kickstarter, Discord and Twitter) worried about the announced remake's fate if we don't make it to the stretch goal.

If we don't reach the 201K goal (and honestly, it doesn't look like we will, but you can always prove us wrong ;) ) that means that Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection will have to wait a bit more. We will focus first on finishing Revenant as good as we can, and use the money we get from its sales to fund the first game's remake. We really want to make this "Resurrection" of the first game, and we are very glad to see that's something backers (and players) also want.

The further we are left from the goal, the more we will have to wait to make the remake, but rest assured that we will do everything in our hand to have it as soon as possible! We even talked with our parters at Tesura Games, and they are very interested in it too!

A lot can happen in 24 hours, let's see how far we go!

 Social Stretch Goals update

Just mere minutes after we posted the last update, we reached new milestones, making the Whispike Queen a part of the free DLC for all backers!

You have this last day of the campaign to get the last 40 points for the Swimsuits! It looks too much, but keep in mind the last milestones of each category count up to 10 points if we reach them, so it's not that impossible!

New Collaboration: Fornlorn Memories!

Fornlorn Memories is a retro-inspired JRPG with life and dating sim elements. With more than 18 characters that share their quest to recover their lost memories, explore a steampunk fantasy world, farm, craft, engage in tactical combat and way more!

This game will also feature songs by Dale North and Emi Evans, who work on Revenant too!

They are going to have a Kickstarter campaign of their own soon, so you can follow them to get notified when it launches, and also you can wishlist the game on Steam! These actions seem insignificant, but help projects a lot with visibility!

As part of our collaboration, and as it's usual in how we do things, we will have something in our game from Forlorn Memories and they'll reciprocate by having something from Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant in theirs.

So their character Lacia will appear in our game as a special Revenant!

Lacia will be a Dark-element Revenant that can use her spear and also summon a dragon spirit named Briz!

Featured Game: The Zebra-Man!

We also want to use this update to talk you about this game by our friends at Zerouno Games. The Zebra-Man! is a Hotline Miami inspired game, with more focus on melee combat and a sense of humor reminiscent of Suda 51 games. They are on Kickstarter right now, so check it out and support them too if you like what you see!

We hope this is not our last update about stretch goals before the campaign ends!

Again, thanks for your support!
