Latest Updates from Our Project:

105K Stretch goal achieved, and entering the last third of the campaign! Time to reveal...
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Feb 19, 2023 at 02:18:18 AM

This one will be a long update!

Thanks to the backers' support, Colosseum Mode will be a reality!

This mode will consist of fighting in a series of enclosed  levels, starting from level 1 and without any items, summons or magic  but what you can get inside. Chain combos to increase your chances of getting better items and more experience to level up and prepare for the final boss!

Colosseum Mode will be an extra game mode available shortly after the game's release as a free DLC/update and accessible even before beating the main story.

Before revealing the next stretch goal, we want to talk about something.

Xbox Physical Edition. Is it possible?

We have received many Private Messages and some comments "in the open" asking if there's going to be an Xbox Collector's Edition or why it isn't there as an option. There were lots of messages on Twitter last weekend regarding that, starting with this comment.

First of all, you should know that the main goal for us and our partners (Tesura Games) is having as much people as possible play the game as they want on their preferred platform of choice

Sadly, with the current conditions that we've been presented, having an Xbox Physical edition is very difficult for us. The minimum amount of copies needed is too high (and we can't disclose that number due to a NDA, please don't ask). Even if we could afford it, it would be difficult for a niche game as ours to distribute as many copies to retail stores.

Regarding this issue, we've been contacted by Microsoft and Xbox representatives and we are looking for a solution with them. We will keep you updated.

We want to thank the Xbox fans for their support, and hope they can have their copy of the game in a physical format!

Now, back to the next stretch goal reveal.

As we are entering the final third of the campaign, this reveal will be a bit different: we will reveal the next stretch goal and another one!

2 Extra Revenants and ???

The next stretch goal is having two new Revenants designed by backers, in a similar way to the "2 Extra Bosses" goal. After the Kickstarter campaign ends, we will make a special channel in our Discord server (join it if you haven't!) where backers will be able to submit their Revenant ideas. Then, we will have an open vote and two of the designs will be selected to appear in the game*!

*Designs will be adapted to the game's  style by our artists, and some restrictions would be applied if needed  to adapt the design to the game's age rating.

The original authors of the Revenants will be credited in the game as "Guest Revenant Designer".

If you don't remember what a Revenant is, you can check this update!

About that second stretch goal we are "revealing"... Can you tell us what it says? Once someone finds the answer, we will unveil it for everyone!

Social Stretch Goals update

We have unlocked two new goals! Only the last 2 to have all of them! Thank you very much

We are currently at 41 points, meaning that we will include the Alternative Costumes and the Dual Knives weapon as a free DLC for all backers!

Alternative Costumes

These costumes are based on "what if" scenarios. What if Tama and Koko never met and continued on their previous paths? What if Kara had reached his goal of being a rich noble before getting the Sword of the Necromancer? Give the characters a new look while improving their stats with these costumes!

Note that the costumes will only change the character's 3D model during gameplay. Dialogue portraits, some cutscenes and CG scenes will still feature their default looks!

Dual Knives

The dual knives will be another Sword-type weapon with fast strikes and a high maximum combo. You can even throw the knives with their charged attack, but you won't be able to use the knives for a while after.

This is a whole new type of weapon (meaning it's not a unique weapon),  so you will be able to find elemental variants and also be able to forge  it to your liking.

We are now on the road for the last two goals: the Whispike Queen optional boss and the Swimsuit Costumes!

Will we unlock the swimsuits? :P Perform these actions to make us do it!

Monster Design Contest

This is a reminder that we have a Monster Design Contest running! More details in this update.

Here you have some of the submissions we have received until now.

To participate in the contest, just draw your design and upload it on Twitter with the hashtag #SwordOfTheNecromancer or #SwordOfTheNecromancerRevenant and tag us (@GrimorioG) so we can find your drawing easily.

Lastly, we are having a collaboration with another upcoming game in the form of a new Revenant! We will tell you more, and show the character in a future update. Some of you might already know which game it is...

See you in the next update, thanks for your support!

Customizable Revenant goal reached! We reveal the collaboration!
almost 2 years ago – Sat, Feb 11, 2023 at 03:46:01 AM

We've raised more than €90K, thanks for your support!

That means we can go with the original idea we had to cut: making Yuu kind of a self insert for the player, and being able to change their appearance!

Players will meet Yuu (or "You", now :D) early on their adventure, being a character that is key to defeat Zain. Yuu is a Revenant, but what does that mean?

 What is a Revenant?

Being something that is part of the game's title should mean they are somewhat important, right? We'll now explain a bit of the story, so if you prefer to go completely blind when you play the game, skip to the next section!

As we explain in the Campaign, a Revenant is a "forgotten hero of the past" that will act as a special summon, being way more powerful than a monster, but having a time limit (and a big cooldown!).

Due to the Necromancer's return and liberation from the crypt, the balance between life and death has been compromised, and spirits known as Wanderers have started to become a problem around the continent. These Wanderers are strong-willed people who died without fulfilling their Purpose, and were trapped in the mortal world, not being able to leave it and condemned to roam it until someone (a Nodam priest) sends them to the afterlife.

Normally, Wanderers just haunt a place and are invisible to regular humans, but they are now in a crazed state and attacking people!

You will need to fight them and beat them so they recover their senses. After that, by using Vel's Eye of Valkyrja you can turn them into Revenants and help them fulfill their Purpose, and in exchange they'll lend you their strength when needed!

Each Revenant is specialized in a weapon type (sword, spear, axe, bow, staff, grimoire) and wields one of the 6 elements (fire, ice, thunder, wind, light, dark). Yuu is an exception to that, being the only one with a neutral element.

To the next stretch goal!

Having met this goal, this means we have to uncover the next one:

Colosseum Mode!

Like the Boss Rush, this would be an extra game mode available shortly after the game's release as a free DLC/update and accessible even before beating the main story.

This extra mode was also present in the original game's as part of its DLC. Just as then, the Colosseum Mode in Revenant will consist of fighting in a series of enclosed levels, starting from level 1 and without any items, summons or magic but what you can get inside.

Chaining attacks (both yours and your summons) will make a combo meter grow. The bigger the combo, the more experience and better items you will find in the chests!

After 5 levels of increasing difficulty, you will face a random boss (including Revenants!) chosen from the ones you've already defeated. Beat the boss and get special prizes and rare weapons!

We will be able to make this extra mode if we reach €105K!

And lastly, as we advanced in the previous update...

New Collaboration: Godshard Chronicles!

Godshard Chronicles is a 2D top-down action RPG inspired by titles such as The Legend of Zelda, Grandia (having music from its composer, Noriyuki Iwadare!), and the Mana series. As in Revenant, you can play alone or with a friend!

They are going to have a Kickstarter campaign of their own soon, so you can follow them to get notified when it launches, and also you can wishlist the game on Steam!

As part of our collaboration, and as it's usual in how we do things, we will have something in our game from Godshard Chronicles and they'll reciprocate by having something from Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant in theirs.

So Ruby will appear in our game as a special Revenant!

She will become a great ally to have on your side, with her sword and Fire magic!

Keep tuned for more news! Also, if you are a game developer and are interested in a collaboration, write us!

Thanks for your support!

More than 1500 backers! New pledge tier: Digital + TCG decks!
almost 2 years ago – Thu, Feb 09, 2023 at 09:06:35 AM

More than 1500 backers already! Thanks for your support!

We are very close to the next stretch goal, having raised more than €86K when there's still 2/3rds of the campaign ahead!

During these days, we have received lots of messages asking us to make the TCG decks available as add-ons for the digital pledges. Our initial reason that this was not already possible is that we wanted to avoid small shippings containing just one item, resulting in having to pay more for the shipping that the item itself.

We have been exchanging messages with people interested in having the TCG but not the physical game (for example, because they game on PC), and found a middle ground

We introduce a new pledge tier: Digital Game (Steam/Switch/PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series) + the 3 TCG theme decks!

You can find this in the rewards section starting at 50€ (cheaper than getting the digital game plus the 3 game decks separately!). As this would count as a physical pledge tier, you can also add the other add-ons (or more decks if you want).

As with the other pledges, you will be able to select the platform for your digital game after the campaign ends (you will receive a survey, so stay tuned!)

We are making this a limited pledge for now just in case, to make sure we can answer to the demand. Remember that shipping will be calculated at the moment of sending your items, way after the campaign ends.

Social Stretch Goals update

We have unlocked two Social Stretch Goals since the last update!

  • Wishlist Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant on Steam: [link]
  • Retweet the Kickstarter Announcement Tweet: [link]
  • Like the Kickstarter Trailer on YouTube: [link]
  • Join r/SwordOfTheNecromancer on Reddit: [link]
  • Follow Grimorio of Games on Twitch: [link]
  • Post fanarts on Twitter with #SwordOfTheNecromancerRevenant and @GrimorioG so we can find them! You can also post them in our Discord server.

The Naginata and the Aegis Shield will be available for free to all backers! The Naginata will be a mix between a spear and a sword, having slashing moves but with a very long reach, while the Aegis Shield will be a unique shield with special attributes that will protect you from many dangers.

The next goal will be the Alternate Outfits:

  • Bandit Queen for Tama
  • High Priestess for Koko
  • Prince for Kara

These outfits are based on a "What if...?" scenario where the three characters chose a different path in their life. We will make them if we achieve enough social milestones to reach 30 points! We are almost there!

We are having a collaboration with an upcoming game! We will tell you more about it in a future update!

Until the next update, thank you again!

75K stretch goal reached! New stretch goal: self-insert Revenant! Monster Design Contest is back
almost 2 years ago – Mon, Feb 06, 2023 at 09:00:15 AM

Thanks again for your support!

With this goal we will have two new bosses that will be designed by you, the backers! After the campaign ends, we will give the backer roles in our Discord server and open a channel so you can submit and discuss your boss ideas with the other backers.

After the submission period ends, we will have a vote period to choose the two bosses that will make it to the game! So start working on your boss concept!

These new bosses will appear in two new sidequests, so if you want to give them some lore or something we will try to include that in the game too! (as long as it doesn't contradict or go against the rest of the game, of course, and applying some restrictions for the age rating)

Having met this goal, this means we have to uncover the next one:

Customizable Yuu!

Okay, who is Yuu? If you've watched the Kickstarter trailer, or read through the whole campaign (or just ever looked at the cover art of the game at some point), you sure have seen this character:

This is Yuu, the first Revenant you will come across in the game, who will have a very important role in the story.

Originally, we planned him to be a self insert for the player (hence the name, "Yuu" = "You"), but due to scope constraints we decided to make him a mysterious hooded guy.

If we reach this goal, we will make it so you can customize Yuu (for starters, being able to change the name) with a variety of options, so "you" can be part of the adventure and travel alongside Tama, Koko and Kara!

The customization would be kinda simple to not compromise animations and other gameplay-related things, but will surely be a nice touch!

Social Stretch Goals update

We need your help to unlock the Naginata! Remember to perform these actions so we unlock all the points and add more free content!

We have achieved 14 points already, so close to unlocking the next goal!

Monster Design Contest is back!

Just as we did with the original game, we are holding a new Monster Design Contest so your monsters can appear in the game!

Anyone, backer or not, can participate in this contest following these easy steps:

Do you want your monster to appear as an enemy (and summon!) in Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant?

Draw your design and upload it on Twitter with the hashtag #SwordOfTheNecromancer or #SwordOfTheNecromancerRevenant and tag us (@GrimorioG) so we can find your drawing easily. The best will get in the game and its author will receive a Collector's Edition!

Winner(s) will be credited as “Guest Monster Designer”! The more people participate, the more prizes we will give, even to those who get on second or third place! Also, try to put Tama, Koko and/or Kara in the  drawing! (For scale purposes, and also to count as fanart for the Social Stretch Goals!)

By submitting your work for consideration in this contest, you understand and agree to the following terms:

  • Your work, in case of being selected as the winner or one of the winners (in case there are more than one), will be used exclusively on Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant and Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant derived products.
  • In case of being selected, you will get credited in the game as “Guest Monster Designer” alongside the name of your design.
  • You will  receive a prize according to the place your design got in the contest.  The first prize will be a Collector’s Edition of Sword of the Necromancer:Revenant, while lower places will get lower prizes or no prize depending on the total number of entries in the contest.
  • Some modifications may be applied to your design in order to make it more suitable to the game’s content.

Contest entries will be accepted until the end of the Kickstarter campaign (March 2nd), then all the backers will decide which monster(s) gets in the game!

Featured Game: Mika and the Witch's Mountain

Also from Spain, our friends at Chibig are having a Kickstarter campaign for their game too!

Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is a fantasy adventure about an aspiring witch who delivers packages to the townspeople of a small island. Explore every nook and cranny and take to the skies with your magic broom.

25 days of campaigning left, currently raising +200K euros and with the Nintendo Switch physical reward unlocked.

More than 1000 backers, 60K Stretch Goal and Social Stretch Goals reached!
almost 2 years ago – Sat, Feb 04, 2023 at 06:05:44 AM

Again, thanks for your support! Lots of milestones today!

You are now more than 1000 backers! Thank you very much for believing in the project! Thanks to your support we have already reached the third stretch goal, and the campaign is keeping a really good pace!

Achieving this goal means that we will have almost double the music by Dale North and Emi Evans in the game!

You can hear a sample of the Battle Theme Dale composed for Sword of the Necromancer: Revenant below:

Having met this goal, this means we need to uncover the next one:

2 Additional Bosses, designed by YOU!

Do you have an idea for a boss? After the Kickstarter campaign ends, we will make a special channel in our Discord server (join it if you haven't!) where backers will be able to submit their boss ideas. Then, we will have an open vote and two of the designs will be selected to appear in the game*!

*Designs will be adapted to the game's style by our artists, and some restrictions would be applied if needed to adapt the design to the game's age rating.

The original authors of the bosses will be credited in the game as "Guest Boss Designer".

Do you want to make sure your idea ends up in the game? Remember we have the "Boss Edition" pledge tier (albeit it's not a cheap one)!

We look forward to see your ideas if we reach this goal! We are sure we are all going to have a good time with this!

Social Stretch Goals update

We have reached lots of social media milestones today!

We have achieved 13 points already, which means every backer will get the Sword of the Necromancer Original Costumes!

These costumes are based on what the characters wore in the original game. As Kara wasn't in the original Sword of the Necromancer, he will wear another character's (Sanzo, the leader of Tama's bandit band) clothes. Give the characters a nostalgic look while improving their stats with these costumes!

Note that the costumes will only change the character's 3D model during gameplay. Dialogue portraits, some cutscenes and CG scenes will still feature their default looks!

The next goal will be a new type of weapon to join the Katana: the Naginata! This weapon would have different combos and would be a mix between a sword and a spear!

Game features: City Builder

Let's talk a bit about one of the game's main features: the city builder. Due to plot reasons, the city of Euda get's totally destroyed, and it's up to the player to restore it to its former glory.

By exploring dungeons and doing sidequests, players will be obtain blueprints and materials, which can be used to create buildings and other things (benches, fences, etc.) for the city. This is similar to games like Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle, which we take inspiration from!

After creating those buildings, you will need to bring people to the city to repopulate it! Some of these people will be special NPCs that will equip Euda with some feature like a Forge, an Inn or a Kitchen when they move in.

Some of these NPCs will be required to be recruited in order to advance in the story, while others will ask the player to go out of their way and complete some sidequest, but they all will be very useful!

What do you think of them? Which purpose do you think each one has? You can leave a comment in this update!

Thank you very much for your support!
